
Band Outside of LT
There are many musical opportunities for band students outside of school. Students have the opportunity to play their musical instruments with other keen musicians from around the province. Students will also have the opportunity to learn from amazing mentors, directors, and teachers along the way. Take a look at some of the different groups. If you have any questions, feel free to ask!
Halifax Regional Arts
Halifax Regional Arts is specifically for Grades 7-12
HRA (Halifax Regional Arts) offers a number of ensembles - vocals, concert band, jazz ensembles, strings, orchestras, guitar, drumming, and more. Students work with professionals and perform in and out of schools. Check out the site for more information (Click on the picture for the website)
NSJWE
NSJWE is specifically for Grades 7-9+
The NSJWE (Nova Scotia Junior Wind Ensemble) Dedicated to encouraging young musicians, fostering a greater love for music and inspiring further musical endeavors. The NSJWE rehearses two weekends each year, one in November and one in March. These weekends also have social activities to help students get to know one another, such as scavenger hunts, obstacle races, painting, skating, and many more activities! Applications are typically due in May the year before participating.
NSYWE
NSYWE is typically for high school and University students
The NSYWE (Nova Scotia Youth Wind Ensemble) The NSYWE is a much more extensive musical ensemble, that is a step up from the NSJWE. This is an auditioned ensemble, and all information is included on their website.
NSHJ
NSHJ is specifically for Grades 7-12
Honour Jazz meets for three intensive weekend session each year throughout central Nova Scotia, where students play in groups and receive master classes on their particular instruments.It is not necessary to know any jazz, all students are placed in groups based on their ability and their interests. Groups, organized by playing level (Junior, Intermediate and Senior) include combos and big bands. Vocalists have the opportunity to sing in the Vocal Ensemble and with one of the bands
NSYO
NSYO is for anyone ages 12-26
NSYO members have the opportunity to work with nationally and internationally acclaimed visiting musicians, as well as professional musicians from Symphony Nova Scotia. Through rehearsals and performances, workshops and leadership opportunities, the NSYO continues to stimulate talented young minds and develop young musicians’ talent.The NSYO’s season runs from the end of September until the end of April and includes an orientation weekend. The orchestra performs between four to six concerts in a typical season.
